Before combat, there is a period of observation in which the men circle around the center of the square while beating the drums with a rapid and violent rhythm. The first fight begins when a member of a group calls one of his opponents. If he accepts the fight, the two of them enter the circle, dressed with a single Lamba (cloth) and the fight begins. If the person refuses to fight, another member of his group is obliged to accept it. In the fight, feet and hands are used to bring down the opposite and it is a display of agility and specific techniques.
Generally, there are no winners or losers. An umpire is responsible for stopping the fight if it begins to be excessively violent. However, one of the opponents is often regarded as the victor, receiving the admiration of the unmarried girls present, while the defeated one prepares for a next revenge. In reality, Moraingy has more of a festive character than of true competition.
