The laamb is both a physical and a spiritual activity. The fighters, before the start of the combat, perform certain preparatory rituals, in public and in private. Each fighter, regardless of his or her strength and ability, is accompanied by a "Marabout" or spiritual director
During the ceremony, the fighter, accompanied by drums and singers who sometimes dance around him, give several turns to the square where the fight will be held. They all carry in their arms and legs various types of amulets that will protect them against the evil spirits and against the witchcraft of other fighters. This part prior to combat is celebrated by the public with as much interest as the fight itself. In one final, to get to the grand finale, seven fights must be fought.
